Several Digital Imaging resources will be offline for the month of October while we upgrade them with new components. Major changes are the Epson station receiving a new printer (the Epson Stylus Pro 11880 which is replacing the 9800), and the flatbed scanning station receiving a new power unit. These stations will be offline in the PIR until the upgrades are complete.
In several weeks all workstations will receive new displays and the Imacon, Epson, and Creo stations will receive new Mac Pro computers. These workstations may be offline for 1-2 days during the upgrades.
In case you are not aware of this:
Any use of Hexagram resources for commercial purposes is strictly prohibited and will result in the permanent loss of access to Hexagram.
We have now a new booking system for workstations at Hexagram, which will update the calendar for availability in real time. Also, pick up and return for the key is now at the EV Security Booth, 24/7.
This means you can now make a booking short notice, even after hours or on weekends. For example, if you decide on Sunday morning that you want to do some scanning, you simply make a booking with the new system, and get the key at Security just before your booking starts. No need to wait for a confirmation from a staff member. No need to come in during office hours to pick up a key for a after hours or weekend booking!
For guidelines how to access the new system please have a look at this guide (pdf)
After hours access: You will need your own swipe card - please read this memo
Please note that for portable equipment, the old system is still in place.

Jean-François Allie is having his last day at Hexagram on January 27th. Mark Baer will take over pick up and returns of portable equipment, including the bookings. Scott Chandler will be from now on the support person for the inkjet printers and scanners. He will also train new users, preferable on Friday which is Scott’s new working day for these tasks.
Thanks to jf for all the work you did for the di-lab!

Reminder: bookings
Please don’t forget to make a booking before you use a workstation. Not only does it guarantee you that can use the station for the time you need it, it also helps us to have a record how busy the lab is. Also, if you can’t make if for a booking, please cancel so that others can access your station.
For last minutes bookings and cancellations, you can also go to the Hexagram Reception, in case the lab staff is unavailable.
Thanks for your help!
New work is up at The Lab Gallery: Karen Zalamea shows «Studies in Semblance» (overhead view). «Studies in Semblance» is a sculptural succession of arm casts that references Eadweard Muybridge’s motion studies. More about her work at www.karenzalamea.com

This is just a reminder that with the Imacon Scanner 848, the AF-button needs to be activated all the time. When you scan, it should look like this:

Without the AF-function, your scans will be out of focus, as some user recently experienced.
